March 20, 1985 Former People Express president Harold J. (Hap) Paretti is forming a new airline based at Washington Dulles Airport to provide jet service between Dulles and cities in New England and the South.
The airline, to be called Presidential Airways, Inc., is seeking the money to buy a fleet and start service by midsummer, Paretti announced yesterday. "Money is obviously a major challenge," he said. "We have a commitment on the first two phases of financing, with insider capital of $1 million and venture capital of $675,000. The next step is to raise additional funds for aircraft purchase."
September 17, 1985 Presidential Airways, a fledgling regional airline that plans to use Dulles Airport as its hub, yesterday announced it will launch its low-fare full-service flights to five cities beginning Oct. 10.

For some passengers, according to a Washington Post survey of airlines, the battle could add up to a $100 savings on a one-way trip.

Last week's inaugural flight of Presidential Airways, which has made Dulles its headquarters, has focused new attention on the airport and the competition for passengers.


November 19, 1985 Presidential Airways, the low-fare airline that began operating in the Washington area last month, reported a third-quarter net loss of $3 million (38 cents a share).


December 6, 1985 United Airlines, the nation's largest, announced yesterday a major Washington-based East Coast expansion that will immediately make it the largest single carrier at suddenly flourishing Dulles International Airport.
